The short answer

The best payout platform is the one that reaches your recipients, in their country, by the method they expect, with statuses and settlement data your team can reconcile. Start from who you pay and where; the shortlist usually writes itself.

  • Creators, affiliates and marketplace sellers worldwide, with tax forms: Tipalti Mass Payments or Payoneer.
  • Sellers on your platform or marketplace, alongside card acceptance: Stripe Connect.
  • Global business payouts from multi-currency accounts: Airwallex.
  • Banks and large platforms embedding cross-border transfers: Wise Platform, Nium or Thunes.
  • Payouts inside India over UPI, IMPS, NEFT and RTGS: RazorpayX or Cashfree Payouts.
  • US bank payouts over ACH, RTP and FedNow: Dwolla.
  • Several of these at once, with one model and every payout reconciled: an orchestration layer such as Flominzo Payouts, on top of the providers you choose.

We make Flominzo Recon and Flominzo Payouts. Every other product on this page is described from its own website, as of September 2026, and linked in the sources. Products and prices change, so check the vendor’s site before you decide.

What to compare before you choose

  1. Coverage: the countries, currencies and methods you need today and next year: bank account, mobile wallet, card or cash pickup.
  2. Speed and cut-offs: which payouts are instant, which settle the same day, and when the day ends.
  3. Funding model: whether you prefund a balance with the provider or are debited after the event, and how that balance is reported.
  4. Statuses and retries: whether every payout has a clear status, whether requests take an idempotency key, and how the provider tells you about a payout that failed after it was accepted.
  5. Reconciliation data: a settlement file or report per business day, with references you can match to your own records and your bank statement.
  6. Compliance: who holds the licences in each market, which checks run on recipients, and which tax forms the platform collects.
  7. Price: subscription, per-payout fees and FX margin. Few providers publish all three.

Where each platform fits

Tipalti and Payoneer

Both are built for paying large numbers of people across borders. Tipalti Mass Payments adds a payee portal and a tax engine for forms such as W-9, W-8, VAT and DAC7, and publishes starting prices (pricing page). Payoneer highlights mass payouts at scale and multi-currency balances for marketplace sellers (home page).

Stripe Connect

Stripe Connect pays out to connected accounts on a schedule or manually, with instant payouts that “typically reach the account within 30 minutes” where available. Its payout status moves through pending, in transit, paid, failed or cancelled, and it publishes webhooks for each change (Stripe documentation). It suits platforms that already take payments with Stripe.

Airwallex, Wise Platform, Nium and Thunes

These are cross-border networks. Airwallex pairs multi-currency accounts with Platform APIs for programmatic payouts. Wise Platform lets banks and enterprises embed Wise’s transfers through an API. Nium offers payouts to 190+ countries over fiat and stablecoin rails. Thunes connects banks, PSPs, money transfer operators and wallets to a network licensed in 50 markets. They suit businesses that need wide reach from one contract.

RazorpayX and Cashfree Payouts

For payouts inside India, both connect to several banks. RazorpayX supports IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, UPI, cards and Amazon Pay, with bulk files of up to 50,000 payouts, and publishes plan prices. Cashfree Payouts describes multi-bank routing, built-in failure handling and reconciliation that matches payouts with transactions and balances across banks.

Dwolla

Dwolla offers one API for US bank payments across ACH and real-time rails, including mass payouts, for platforms that embed payments.

What payout statuses really mean

Every provider names its statuses differently, but they map to the same few facts. Knowing which fact a status proves stops a team from closing a payout too early, or paying it twice.

Status familyWhat it provesWhat it doesn’t
Accepted, created, pendingThe provider received a valid instructionThat money has left, or will
Processing, in transit, sentThe provider has submitted it to a rail or partnerThat the recipient has it
Paid, completed, successThe provider says it reached the recipientThat the provider will settle it with you as expected
Failed, rejectedIt did not go, and says whyThat it can be sent elsewhere if the rejection was not definite
Returned, reversedIt went, then came backThat your ledger has reversed it
Timeout, no responseNothing: the outcome is unknownThat it failed; never resend without a status lookup

A provider’s paid status is a claim. It becomes proof when the provider’s settlement file includes the payout and your bank statement shows the money that funded it. The guide to payout reconciliation walks through the matching.

What a payout really costs

Published prices usually show one part of the bill. Ask each provider for all of these, for your corridors and volumes:

  • Subscription or platform fee, if any, and what it includes.
  • Per-payout fee by method and speed: standard, same day and instant are often priced differently.
  • FX margin over the mid-market rate on cross-border payouts, and when the rate is locked.
  • Return and failure fees, and whether failed payouts are refunded in full.
  • Prefunding: how much cash must sit with the provider, and for how long, before payouts can go.
  • Operations time: the hours your team spends chasing statuses and reconciling reports. It is often the largest cost, and the one no provider quotes.

Local rails by market

Cross-border networks reach many countries, but each country pays out over its own rails, and each rail leaves different evidence. These are the rails our market pages cover:

When one payout provider isn’t enough

Most payout businesses start with one provider and add a second within a year: to reach a new corridor, to get a better rate, or because an outage stopped every payout at once. The second provider brings a second API, a second status vocabulary, a second settlement file and a second prefunded balance to watch. That reconciliation cost is rarely budgeted.

  1. One instructionYour system sends one payout in one format.
  2. RouteRules choose a provider by corridor, cost, balance and health.
  3. ExecuteThe provider’s adapter sends it with an idempotency key.
  4. ReconcileClaim, settlement file and bank statement are matched.
  5. CloseThe payout closes when the evidence agrees.

This is the job Flominzo Payouts does. It is not another payout provider: it sits over the providers you choose, sends every payout through one model, routes by rules you approve, and fails over only after a definite rejection, never after an unknown outcome. Every payout is reconciled against the provider’s settlement file and your bank statement through Flominzo Recon. Flominzo doesn’t hold your funds; they stay with your licensed providers and banks.

Questions

What is the difference between a payout platform and a payout API?

A payout platform usually includes dashboards, recipient onboarding and sometimes tax forms. A payout API is the programmatic interface to send payouts. Most platforms offer both; what matters is whether the API gives you clear statuses, idempotency and settlement data.

What happens if a payout times out?

Treat it as unknown, not failed. Ask the provider for the status before any retry, and never send it through a second provider until the first has definitely rejected it. The guide to duplicate payouts and unknown status explains why.

Do we need a payout provider if we use Flominzo Payouts?

Yes. Flominzo connects to the licensed providers and banks you use; it doesn’t move money itself. Providers, corridors and activation are agreed for your deployment.

How do we reconcile payouts across providers?

Match each provider’s claim to its settlement file and your bank statement, and watch each prefunded balance. The payout reconciliation guide and the free payout reconciliation template show how.
